            Hey guys, Chris here with some probably not totally unexpected news.  Getting By Comics has to go on hiatus.  Sorry, but something in my life had to give.  GBC was the logical choice, although not the one I wanted to make emotionally.  I think the hiatus will be at least two months long, but that’s just a wild guess-timate.  It’s not a promise; it’s not even a guaranteed return. 

            If you’re interested in an email alert when I a) am restarting GBC or b) know I am not going to be restarting GBC, please email me at chris@gettingby.net. with “GBC list” in the title.  I will not sell, lend, or give away your email address. I will not send you useless crap.  I will mail you once (and only once) to tell you what’s happening.  If you opt for me to email you with that news, please add me to your email’s Safe list or Approved Senders or whatever you need to do to have my email land in your Inbox rather than your junkpile.  True, I could just tell you to stop by periodically, but I don’t like to string people along.

            It’s not that I don’t want to continue GBC, but there are other things in my life that have to take priority right now. In the last 4-6 weeks:

1. I went from a 20 hour/week job to a 40 hour/week job.

2.  There’s the distinct possibility that my husband and I will be moving across the country in the next month.  We’re still waiting to hear for sure about his possible new job, but wish us luck.  We’ve wanted this for a long time.  We have a lot of preparing to do.

3. If you read the rant space lately, you know I’ve been getting a lot more paying work recently.  I have photo or costume events booked every other weekend for the next 2 months.  All day I work at a computer.  Every evening, I’m either working on my home computer or sewing. My carpal tunnel has been aggravated again, so spending additional time at my computer for the comic isn’t exactly a pleasing prospect these days.

4. Because my photography business is picking up in the local market, my free time is equivalent to money (well, student loan payments).  Those of you who have honed an artistic skill or started a business will understand how much time it takes.  I listen to podcasts about both topics while I drive. My reading is devoted to them, my choice of walking spots is centered around taking salable shots.  If we move, I have to start over gaining a foothold on a new market.  If we stay, I need to further develop relationships here.  Either way, I have to update relevant portfolios, deal with the quarterly taxes, and organize my work for stock sales submission.  So at least know I won’t be slacking.

            GBC started as a creative outlet and a project to learn digital photo editing skills.  It has served that function and become more.  I want to continue the story, but I can’t right now. I’ll miss it. The podcast was an idea to promote the comic and fill one day a week with something that took less time than a comic.  Likewise, that’s on hold, or at least unscheduled.

            I hope to see most of you back sometime soon.  In the meantime, keep on getting by.
