F Nov. 12, 2004: Now, for the promised major GB Comics- changing news:  I am leaving my master's program, despite the thesis being the only remaining hurdle.  An already barely-tolerable advisor situation, made worse by my attempt to change labs, was further complicated by mononucleosis this spring and a forced change in topic this summer, and has finally reached the point where leaving is the only sensible option.

Hire Chris as a photographer

What does this mean to Chris' future?  I'm working toward the future of my writing career and continuing my part-time Quality Assurance job, rather than fighting an emotionally draining battle with the tail end of my formal preparation for said career.  All wishes, prayers, and supportive cafepress purchases are welcome (see left).  Also, I'll be buying Adobe CS suite this weekend while I still qualify for the massive academic discount.  This should result in improved visual fun for all of you, as I've started straining at some of Elements' limitations.

What does my personal major life event mean to you, the GB reader?  As promised, the strip will be going to 3-updates-a-week (see About Getting By) for that promise and others.  It's going to take a few weeks to do the final paperwork, etc. (and work ahead in strip creation), so the new updating schedule will take effect after Thanksgiving weekend.  It seems most suitable, as that's when the season of true retail hell begins.  Julie and her little friends have much to fear...  - chris@gettingby.net

About d0023a- "The Lab Song"

This song (guess the tune by the first line) was written this fall during a lecture, with much furtive snickering from my comrade-in-gloves, MO.  I hope it brings joy to fellow labgeeks, or at least some cynical emotional respite.  Please include the copyright and address if you're printing it out and hanging it on your office door- I could use the publicity.  All events therein described have actually occurred to myself or a first-hand acquaintance.

MO, you da gal, you rock, you've been a real sanity saver and very good friend-  but don't think that means that I'm letting you off the hook for those photos we've discussed.
